Jane Bentley began her musical journey whilst doing a three year stint with the Iona Community, discovering that, for her, it was more fulfilling to do music with, rather than for people, and becoming aware of the potential for music making in everyday community life. This journey has since taken her all over the world, making music with groups ranging from 300 (surprised) nurses at an annual conference; homeless mothers, children, and ex-offenders in Chicago; locked wards; clergy summer schools, and nursing homes, and working with musicians across genres.

Ongoing commitments include work for NHS mental health services in Paisley, tutoring Community Music at the University of Strathclyde, helping out at the monthly Holy City event in Glasgow, and working away at a part-time PhD in musical participation, which she will finish one day.
